Excellence in Public Service, 2021
This is the system’s highest faculty honor and is awarded amongst all public universities in Maryland. This prestigious honor recognizes my work in elections security and the impacts it has to improving security at polling places. I am very proud of the work that my student researchers across USM have done, and I am humbled this recognition.
Elections Assistance Commission Clearinghouse Award
Outstanding Innovation in Election Cybersecurity and Technology, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, 2021
Anne Arundel County, Maryland was awarded this national award for our poll worker threat training, with acknowledgement to their partnership with Towson University. Our online educational modules empower poll workers to identify and then mitigate potential cyber, physical, and insider threats that may arise at a polling place. Our modules were available to all poll workers in Anne Arundel County during the 2020 General Election. The Towson University BTU Initiative provides critical support, coordination, and decision-making to further the work of faculty with community impact projects in Greater Baltimore. The BTU Partnership Awards recognize the most impactful community collaborations for that academic year.
Our research on elections security was selected as a 2020 award recipient, and we are grateful to our community Board of Elections partners in Anne Arundel and Harford Counties in Maryland.
